ason Weil designed this house in 2016, not for a client but in conjunction with the builder who ultimately built it for himself and his family. They chose this half-acre site in North Asheville for its balance of year-round mountain views and wooded privacy. The setting shapes the experience. Partially cleared and partially wooded, the upper levels sit within a natural canopy, treehouse-like in summer, with mountain views opening wide in winter. The home offers five bedrooms, five and a half baths, and more than 5,100 square feet across three levels. The main level features a primary suite with spa bath and private mountain-view balcony. The upper level holds two additional bedroom suites, each with their own flex space, connected by a loft library. The lower level includes a fifth bedroom and a fully self-contained one-bedroom apartment with its own kitchen, laundry, separate entry, and dedicated parking — equally suited as a guest suite, rental, or multigenerational living space. Inside, a double-height entry with exposed beams and a floating staircase sets the tone. The main living area rises two stories, anchored by a fireplace and framed in timber and glass. It feels open and expansive, yet still grounded. The kitchen centers on an island that connects directly to the living space, with a walk-in pantry just off to the side. From the two-car garage, a well-lit mudroom leads to the laundry and a tucked-away office nook, creating an everyday layout that is both practical and well considered. The primary suite is on the main level, with a spa bath that includes heated floors, a curbless walk-in shower, and a soaking tub, along with a private balcony overlooking the mountains. There is over 1,000 square feet of outdoor living space beyond the 260 square foot screened porch. A back deck with cable railings preserves the treetop views, offering space for dining and cooking. From there, steps lead down to a stone patio, hot tub, and fire pit at the edge of the woods. Upstairs are two ensuite bedrooms, a loft, and flexible bonus space. The lower level includes two additional bedrooms, a family room, and the apartment, well-suited for guests, extended family, or rental use. Morning light fills the front of the home, while afternoon sun settles across the back deck and into the woods beyond. Wildlife is part of the setting, with regular sightings of deer and turkey, giving the property a sense of being further out than it is. Photovoltaic solar panels significantly offset energy costs. The garage is finished with polished concrete floors, built-in storage, a workbench, and an EV charger. No HOA, no gate, no restrictions — just privacy that feels earned by the land itself. The home is just minutes from North Asheville and Beaver Lake. A well-built, thoughtfully maintained custom home, ready for its next chapter.

Huntersville NC Real Estate Guide

Local Tips & Strategies for the 28078 Market

1. Commute Tips: If you’re interested in Huntersville homes for sale, drive I-77 at 0730. Managing the Express Lane access points from Birkdale or Macaulay is the difference between an easy commute and total gridlock nightmare.

2. Valuation Tips: Sellers in communities like Skybrook or Northstone shouldn’t ever anchor prices to Lake Norman waterfront data or properties. Value is driven by the Huntersville school district, lifestyle amenities and location, location, location.

3. Local Boating Tips: Beat the boat ramp crowds at Blythe Landing by launching early in the morning, before 0800.  On the way home, hit Rise Cafe in Birkdale Crossings or head by Birkdale Village for dinner.  (See some of our favorite restaurants in Birkdale Village)

Huntersville NC Real Estate FAQ

Is Huntersville NC walkable?
Birkdale Village is the premier walkable hub, offering a mix of luxury retail, dining, and single-family residential homes..  There are also townhomes and plenty of places to eat.  As a resident, I walk to Birkdale daily for exercise or to eat.  There’s always something going on there.

How are the schools in Huntersville?
Top schools include Lake Norman Charter and Grand Oak Elementary, which are major drivers for local property values.  Beware of Charlotte Mecklenburg School systems as they constantly change the school map around Huntersville.  If you need more information, go directly to the school system to be sure.

Are property taxes lower than Charlotte?
Yes. You get Mecklenburg County services without the added Charlotte city tax—a major win for relocations.  Local tip to consider is that taxes in Mecklenburg County are higher than nearby counties.

Where is the best outdoor recreation?
Latta Nature Preserve is the crown jewel, offering miles of waterfront hiking and kayak launches on Mountain Island Lake. Jetton Park in Cornelius is on of my favorites and only a five minute drive from Birkdale Village.

What are the top golf neighborhoods?
Northstone Country Club and Skybrook Golf Club are the premier destinations for luxury golf-course living.  Nearby in other towns you’ll also find additional choices to drive balls or play 18 holes.
